Men and Progesterone
‘Why do I recommend older men supplement with Bioidentical Phyto-Progesterone?”
By, Helen Pensanti M.D.
Men’s progesterone levels start to decline around the age of 45. When progesterone levels in men start to drop an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase becomes very active and the human male starts to increase levels of DHT. In males DHT turns out to be something undesirable. What is DHT? It is called “di-hydro testosterone”. What does this DHT do to a man??? For one, it causes baldness and then it causes the growth of hair in the nose and ears. The progesterone that I am recommending for men will block the male body from converting testosterone to the non desirable DHT. How does it do that??? By blocking or inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase which is very active when the progesterone levels are low.
Do men make Estrogen?
Yes, men make estrogens, however, in lower does then females do.
The sad part is that now in the 21st Century our problem with Xeno-Estrogens pervading the United States of America is causing the estrogen levels to go up in both males and females.
So, what is a man to do????
I suggest that males over 50 supplement with Bioidentical Phyto-Progesterone to:
- increase their low levels of progesterone
- balance the estrogen dominance from xeno-estrogens
I recommend:
8 to 10 mg per day of "Bio-Identical Phyto-Progesterone for Males" available at www.askdrhelen.com online catalog.
