Dr. Edward Conley has been a medical pioneer in the research of fatigue since the 1980's. He is the founder and medical director of the Fatigue Clinic of Michigan and author of "America Exhausted: Breakthrough Treatments of Fatigue and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."
Fatigue is often caused by stress. When the human body is under stress, the adrenal glands need to increase their function to release adrenaline which improves our strength in time of need. In our current stressful environment, we are over-using our adrenals (small glands behind the kidneys which produce many hormones including cortisol.) If the adrenal glands become exhausted or depleted, they can no longer produce the hormones which are necessary for energy production.
How can we boost adrenal strength?
- Stess Reduction
- Take the necessary vitamins and minerals: Vitamin C, B-complex, Vitamin B-5,Vitamin E, Beta Carotene
- Adrenal supplements: The supplements help your adrenals cope with stress and also are important in allowing your adrenals to rebuild for the future. Adrenal supplements are best obtained through a health care professional.
- Eat more vegetables to get anti-oxidants from you food. If the body does not have sufficient anti-oxidants, energy production gets damaged first.
- DHEA supplementation: DHEA is diminished with stress because the adrenal glands divert to making cortisol. DHEA can be taken in small doses.
- Other supplements: Co-Enzyme Q-10 improves the way your body produces energy. NADH (also known as Co-Enzyme 1) is an energy producing compound. If you are low in the nutrients used to make it, you will not be producing it yourself. It is expensive, so it is suggested you try it for 90 days to see if it works.
- Get adequate sleep. Tip: The brain needs at least 1 hour of darkness to create its own melatonin, so turn off the lights and TV one hour prior to bedtime.
