- Dear Dr. Helen,
almost a year ago you mentioned borage oil for relieving skin eczema. That one little tip from Dr. to Dr. has improved my life tremendously! I got the borage oil and took one capsule per day. My itching hands have returned to normal!
Cathy, Long Island, N.Y.
Thank you for sharing your success! Borage oil is derived from the seeds of the borage plant. It contains an essential fatty acid called GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which has anti-inflammatory activity. It is also wonderful for PMS and menopausal symptoms as it helps regulate hormone activity. I would like to see a bottle of borage oil in every home.
- Dear Dr. Helen,
I love to drink iced tea. Will it give me the same antioxidant protection if I do not brew my own tea, but use the ready-to-drink formulas instead?
Candace, Calvin, MO
Now that summer is upon us, many of you will be drinking a lot of iced tea. You will be happy to know that you do NOT have to brew it yourself. Researchers compared brewed iced tea with the instant powders as well as pre-bottled iced tea. They ALL contain antioxidants. Brewed iced tea has the most, powdered mixes were almost equal to brewed, and the ready-to-drink bottles or cans had about 50% as much as brewed.
So, go ahead and seize the convenience! However, go for the unsweetened brands as some of the prepared teas are loaded with sugar!
