The Role of Bacterial and Viral Infections in Chronic Illnesses

In researching Gulf War Syndrome, Dr. Nicolson discovered that chronic infections underlie many of the following diseases:

60% of fibromyalgia sufferers have a bacterial infection or a viral infection from systemic mycoplasmas such as chlamydia (an airborne organism, not the same as the sexually transmitted chlamydia). Many sufferers have both. These mycoplasmas penetrate the cells and interfere with its structure and ability to produce energy. They may even go on to cause cancer.

These mycoplasmas are not easily detected, but can be identified in blood leukocytes (white cells) by a technique called gene tracking. This technique uses a very sensitive and specific DNA hybridization analysis to positively identify unique DNA sequences that are indicative of specific species of mycoplasmas and other organisms

Research has suggested that this disorder might respond to particular antibiotics that are known to be effective against mycoplasmal infections; one of them being doxycycline. Multiple 6-week courses of antibiotics may be necessary as one cycle of antibiotic therapy is not sufficient to completely suppress the mycoplasmal infections.
